This is my character, Monte. He is an alien soldier who was left behind on Earth as punishment for belonging to the lowest caste in his planet's caste system...
He still loves his planet very much and is able to fight as a soldier to defend it, but the planet's officials won't allow him to step foot on it. He cries a lot about it...

Okay... OKAY! WHY DIDN'T I NOTICE THIS WORK EARLIER??? *looks at self angrily*
Firstly, I am so amazed how many details this has in environment. I mean, not only the sparkling night sky which reflects also how much his home means for your character but also the car and the house in the background. They just reflect that the real alien here isn't Monte but Earth itself.
Secondly, although Monte might be crying he is clinching his fist which shows how many more emotions there are there than just sadness. It might also be anger, disappointment, self-restraint and so on.
